'Across the Tracks' came to life from the front seat of my car. Painting in this manner has its pros and cons. It's cozy and private, but it limits the robust brushwork you might get when using an easel.

'Across the Tracks' depicts a rustic winter scene. Several buildings with pitched roofs, in earthy browns and creamy whites, stand in the composition. The central structure has prominent windows and a chimney, implying a residence. Reflective snow blankets the roofs and the ground, with patches of underlying vegetation peeking through, indicating that the snowfall is not overwhelmingly heavy.

Bare trees punctuate the view, their slender trunks and branches adding a delicate network of lines against the buildings and sky. The foreground features a railway bed marked with a mix of soft hues and sharper strokes, giving the painting both a sense of calm and textural contrast. The brushwork is expressive, with an interplay of light and shadow that suggests a chilly but tranquil winter day in a serene, possibly rural or semi-rural, environment.
