I'm not a big kayaker myself (I prefer canoes) but there is something calming about how they seem to cut through the water effortlessly. The sole island we have on our lake has a very narrow and shallow straight separating it from the mainland and this passage isn't navigable by power craft. This makes it popular with kayakers so you often see them paddling around the island.
