Artist’s Statement
I typically start my artwork with live models. For landscapes, this usually involves plein air painting. At this stage, my aim is to capture and react to the subject matter and surroundings as effectively as possible. I work swiftly to block in masses and outline the fundamental structure. Mark making is crucial, along with strong drawing abilities and design sense.
Back in the studio, I adjust the work according to my vision. Sometimes, no changes are necessary, but often, some fine-tuning is required. Through trial and error, I refine the imagery.
The process is iterative. I use photography solely to document the artwork's progress, primarily for social media updates. Instagram and Facebook serve as vital platforms for feedback, influencing the direction and quality of my work. They also offer inspiration—and a dose of humility—through the works of other artists. It's an extraordinary time to be an artist.
